We have a saying amongst Indians – we start everything with a sweet – so I’ll start with a classic desert which I learnt from my mom-in-law sometime back when she visited us here. So here it goes The Cinnamon Apple Crumble with a lil addition from me J
Well these pics have been clicked on my Corby and I cook mostly during dinner so the pics aren’t that great. I hope to work on them latter when the blog starts up J So please bear with me.
The Cinnamon Apple Crumble
Ingredients
2 big Apples – peeled and chopped
Self-Raising Flour (maida) – 1 cup
Sugar – 1 cup
Butter – 100-150g
Oats/ Cornflakes – 2 tablespoon (This is the addition! It will make it crunchy )
Cinnamon dust – 1 teaspoon
Nutmeg dust – 1 teaspoon
Well I made it in my microwave, so if you don’t have an oven don’t worry you can do almost everything if you have a convection microwave!
Method
I always make the crumble first because if you keep your apples peeled and chopped it will turn brown and ugly.
For the crumble mix the butter with the flour – I preferred doing with hands than the blender because you don’t want it smooth. Keep mixing for 2-3 minutes till it attains a texture of breadcrumb. You can add the oats/cornflakes now. When the butter is mixed with the flour properly add the sugar (preferably granulated and not powdered or icing sugar) the granulated sugar will add to the rich texture. Save two table spoon of sugar from this for a latter stage.
Before peeling the apples put the microwave proof casserole in the microwave and preheat it for a minute.
Peel deseed and chop the apples in small quarters. Spread it over the casserole so that the base is covered completely. Now sprinkle the saved 2 tablespoons of sugar evenly over the apples. Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg dust over this. (I prefer grating them fresh than the ready dust available at the store. The freshly grated ones give better aroma).
Sprinkle the prepared crumble mixture on the apples and press them with hand so that it sits tight.
Microwave it in high for 5- 6 minutes. And after that grill it for 2 minutes to get that light brown texture over your apple crumble
Now the very important step – Enjoy your hot Cinnamon Apple Crumble
Suggestion: You can serve it just like that but I preferred having it with cold custard or ice-cream. J
Happy Cooking!
